Tree Trimming or Pruning

Reasons to prune or trim your tree:

  • Remove diseased limbs

  • Promote healthy structure and future growth

  • Protect people and property from unstable branches

  • Provide clearance for structures, vehicles, or utilities

  • Remove unhealthy root growth

**WE WILL NOT TOP TREES. Topping is where an indiscriminate cut is made at a certain point or height of the tree; it does not follow the principles of proper pruning techniques. Topping trees is not good for the overall health of trees and leads to unstable structures that can result in more future expenses or hazards for the customer.

Care should be taken when pruning or trimming trees. Proper techniques, amounts, and equipment should always be used. There are also proper times of the year to prune and or trim certain species of trees.

To prevent the spread of oak wilt, the proper time to trim oak trees is from roughly November through March when the trees are dormant.

Tree Removal

Let’s face it…. most people (especially in Iowa) do not want to see their trees or any trees be removed. The fact is that we live in an imperfect world where death is as much a part of life as life is. Trees have a life cycle and that cycle can be cut short by a number of environmental circumstances. We also acknowledge that some trees need to be removed for other reasons as well. We can help by providing a professional and safe removal of those trees.

Trees will also sometimes blow over in storms. We can help remove trees that are on structures as aftermath from storms.

Once we meet with you and see your tree, we can make an informed decision as to the method of the removal we will be using.

Tree FellingA face notch is cut and the tree is dropped whole without removing any or much of the canopy. This is arguably the safest method of removing a tree, but it does come with its own set of hazards and is most constrained by space required to drop the tree.

Limbing or Rigging: This method is mostly for trees where a safe drop zone for the tree cannot be determined. A operator will either climb or go up into the tree with a bucket lift and remove limbs one by one until the tree is at a height or size that it can be safely felled. This method is the most time consuming and equipment intensive method of removal.

Stump Removal

Depending on their size some stumps can be removed by digging and some need to be removed by a grinder. A machine will grind the stumps down into chips. Price is determined by the size of the stump (at ground level), hazards, and desired depth. What is often left is a mixture of wood chips and dirt. Unless something else is requested, the standard cleanup will be to remove the mound of mulch and leave what is left at ground level.
